Art can be found everywhere. There are an endless amount of museums, books, and documentaries dedicated to art. But what of the artists? At the start of this semester, we could barely name 5 female artists, let alone know the stories of their lives. After studying art and artists, I came to the realization that the creative minds that imagined a perfect image of art and then made that exact image a reality should be have more recognition then they are given; thus pinkpainters.tumblr.com was created.

To elaborate, my semester project is a tumblr blog that showcases local young female artists. I knew many of these artists personally through social media and mutual friends. But these women represent your sisters, friends, and classmates. They're women that both society and the art world dismiss, simply for the fact they are women. We, as women, are constantly unappreciated, ignored, and silenced. This blog is a big middle finger to the male gaze, patriarchy, and misogyny. Art displays opinions, thoughts, and stories, it is a form of insight into the person who made the art piece. Since all the artists showcased are women, THEIR stories, experiences and backgrounds are also showcased, through their own words and images. Not by a white male artist with a paint brush declaring women are strictly for the pleasure of men, because he paints a hairless women naked and exposed.

It is blog to encourage the recognition of artist, but even more important, for women themselves to be acknowledged. I hope everyone enjoys seeing the art, meeting the artists, and listening to their stories. Follow and share the tumblr at: pinkpainters.tumblr.com and feel free to contact the artists with any comments about their works or inquires about pieces.
