#DefendHer

My best friend was given the chance to study abroad in Barcelona, Spain. When she mentioned that the tickets were affordable during my spring break I knew I had to take advantage of this opportunity. Who would have thought that my new found passion for travel, and immersing myself in a different culture would somehow connect with "ArtandWomen".
As many tourists do, I attempted to capture of the beauty of Barcelona in a single snap shot.

I began to look into artists from Barcelona and some how that search brought me to discover Maria Maria Acha-Kutscher. I truly believe that people can make differences with their lives, whether big or small there is no true measure to make one's positive change grander than someone else's.
Maria Maria Acha-Kutscher is a feminist artist that focuses on the empowerment of women and equality across the whole board. What made her stand out most importantly to me is her #DefendHer campaign. "Meet the DefendHers- Women activists working tirelessly to defend out freedoms and rights. They stand up under threat of violence from those who wish not only to deny those rights, but also to deny their very right to speak out. Their courage is extraordinary and inspiring. Their work in crucial for advancing human rights. And yet many of us have never hear their stories."
While the advertising industry is used to objectify the women's body, Maria Maria Acha-Kutscher uses her knowledge of media and advertising techniques in order to highlight the struggle of women's rights in her various projects such as WomenWorkingForWomen and the #DefendHer Campaign. The tumblr account that I have created, and made public for everyone to see can be found at:

I take pride in this project because I truly am an advocate for Ms. Kutscher work. She is a brilliant woman who has helped to take a stand and take part in her hopes for humanity. She channels her passion for art and turns that platform that challenges ignorance.

  1. This is great.I am especially excited that it was inspired by your travel. You should add an artist every week or month! Keep me posted. This should be a travel log through the artists and activists you discover on your travels!
