Semester Project Pitch and Intro

Decided to focus on Yoko Ono (1933- Present) for my semester project. The reason why I have chosen her was because of the work she has done throughout her life time and her involvement in improving the environment of women in the US and around the world. She was majorly involved in politics and she was cared for any other person as if they were her relatives. She is known as an famous artist and also known for marrying John Lennon in 1966. Ono and Lennon were famously involved for their Bed-Ins for Peace in Amsterdam and Montreal in 1969. The concept of feminism was the forefront of her art work and music.

Artwork-

Ono was known to be a pioneer of conceptual art and performance art. One of her most famous works is known as Cut Piece. She performed Cut Piece in 1964, at the Sogetsu Art Center in Tokyo. She allows her audience members to join her and cut pieces of her clothing off. This is an example of her art confronting issues of gender, class and cultural identity. She sat silently until the piece concluded at her desertion.

-Ono art work often demeaned the viewers participation and it forced them to get involved. Cut piece was a main example of this as well as a myriad of other examples.

-With this in mind I created an Extensive PowerPoint presentation that curtails Yoko Ono's life as an artist. Information and Photos curtail her work and what she has been involved in throughout her life. One is able to see her significance as a female artist and what contributions she has made to help change her environment. All of the photos were from Google images. Information regarding her artwork and life, where from many websites.
