Art and women
4/24/17
The division line
Art history focuses on the many movements and
artist that have left their mark on the world and push the profession forward,
but I noticed that after years of studying art history from beginning to end I
was unable to identify more than five women artists that I had learned about.
Most women were the wives of professional artist or females that stood out for
some particular reason. My main focus for this class was to become more
knowledgeable about art and the way women created art through the various
movements and time periods, I then learned about the judgment and abuse they
had to endure to be validated and taken into consideration as suppose to their
male counterparts.
My semester project aims to shine a light on
the issues, experiences, and concerns of women artist through the various time
periods, and to educate the population on these struggles with a presentation
that will establish a visual language speaking about issues. This will be done
using a series of posters. Staying true to graphic design I will also provide a
pamphlet and online information for the reader to seek as supporting elements
of my project. The posters, pamphlet and web info will be available on , Instagram, behance [link], Tumblr, and in various bulletin boards and
info centers around campus to reach and inform the public in the hopes of
sparking curiosity.
