Extra Credit Assignment

The Native American theme of D. Y. Begay heritage shines through her work by giving her audience a piece of her family legacy and culture.  In the exhibition it gives a feel of love and warm that strength that stands out in the exhibition it left me wanting to learn more of the pieces.  The spiritual connections that the artist has of the land, animals, and her experiences living on the reservations reflects through her art.  The "Blanket" piece in the exhibit spoke to me more because it shows her heritage and connections of the native people in a beautiful light; people can appreciate her work more in exhibits more because you get to see it up close and see that it really takes a unique talent to express contemporary art like Begay can.  Her work addresses patriarchy and feminism by introducing people to a power contemporary artwork of love, peace, and feminism by creating beautiful pieces like dresses, scarfs, and blankets etc.  Begay weaved her pieces to connect the strength and power of women in her family that wants to explore and celebrate women artist that are naturally creative through experience by allowing her art to shine.
