Mini Post: Menstruate With Pride

Sarah Maple a feminist, activist, and artist was born(1986)and raised in the United Kingdom while having parents of Christian and Muslim descent, she became aware of all kinds of discrimination. She studied fine arts at Kingston University and also the University of Creative Arts. Maple has exhibitions displayed all over the world. She is an award-winning artist of the Sky Acadamy Arts Scholarship, Artangel, and also 4 New Sensations, Saatchi Gallery. Her upcoming exhibitions will take place in Amsterdam and Nottingham. The painting above is an oil painting by Sarah Maple called "Menstruate With Pride", a painting made in order to stop the social stigma of womanhood. The point of this painting is to show that although women from time to time may feel ashamed and or feel "rotten" of having a period, we should embrace, not be embarrassed since it because it is a part of being a women. Sarah Maple also creates oil paintings of women wearing the hijab(Muslim head scarf) and also revealing a body part and or smoking to show that women who cover should be free to do so and that the pressure to reveal body is unnecessary.

  1. Great post! I really enjoyed it because Ive always felt shy and somewhat embarrassed to discuss mensuration. Sarah Maple helped me realize that menstruation isn't something you need to be ashamed of. It is completely normal, therefore, it should be seen on the same leveling as anything else.
