Martha Rosler
Martha Rosler is a 73 year old artist born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Rosler studied at Brooklyn College as well as the University of California, San Diego. While in school Rosler created some of her unique and meaningful pieces. Rosler has composed art in the form of photo-collage, photo-text, video, photography and performance. She is known for her art containing feminism, warfare, social justice and civil rights. Rosler creates collages that often times brings important social issues to the audience's attention. Her artwork is referred to as a conversation started since she incorporates both war and private life. By including both, she emphasizes that there are issues involving our country that many are unaware or blinded by. In the images below it is justified that she includes women and war to convey her message to the audience.
Martha Rosler is also well known for her different pieces of writing. She has published over 15 books and textbooks on art and photography. She is also known for lectures, which she has toured internationally for. Rosler has also been published in various different magazines. She has also taught art at the Mason Gross School of the Arts in Rutgers, New Brunswick. She is currently an education advisor for the Whitney Museum of American Art. Through these different means of art she has completed, she has shared her voice and her views with the world. Which is most important, being able to share knowledge and a different perspective with others.
