Renee Cox
Renee Cox is a African American female artist who specializes in photographer and mixed media. She was born October 16, 1960 in Colgate, Jamaica. Eventually Renee found herself living in Scarsdale, New York which influenced her style in art. She is a political activist and is part of the feminist art movement in the United States. Her work addresses political and social issues about women rights and the destruction of gender-based stereotypes. Her work creates controversial debate which fight racism and aim to correct cultural information.
She is very unique and uses her own body as well as digital technology to promote self love and expresses black oppression by using the character Raje, to display women empowerment. Some of best known works are Raje, Yo Mama's Last Super, and Queen Nanny of the Maroons which she uses light and digital technology to provoke cultural work, gender and African studies on one spectrum. The mission is to create new visuals to portray a positive visual representation of African American attributes in the U.S. She hopes to continue to make new creations for "new consciousness of the body and unleash new possibilities."

She made Liberation of Aunt Jemima piece in 1998 which uses superhero figures to show historical role with racism-fighting characters.
