Project Summary: The Renaissance

The presentation contained information about the renaissance and its impact during the 14th- 17th century. The slides give a general description of what the renaissance encompassed such as the rebirth of philosophy, science, music and art. The treatment of the renaissance man and woman will  also be explained during the presentation. For example, men had more freedom and were more patriarchal than women. More importantly, the presentation depicted the effects of the “renaissance hero”, or in this case, female artist who positively impacted the art industry. Artists such as Lavinia Fontana and Maria Robusti were described along with their artistic style. For example, Fontana was a profound female painter while Robusti gained fame for her portrait work while working in her father’s studio. Several other artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Properzia de' Rossi, Rachel Ruysch, and Mary Beale were acclaimed renaissance heroes as well. Each of these women went through trials and tribulations to fight for their hard work, no matter how dominant and patriarchal men were. The goal of this presentation is to enlighten students about the influence of art during the renaissance and how its artistic styles still follows us today.
